First Time Mum’s Positive Water Birth | Hypnobirthing Story

Okay, I have a birth story for you…
And honestly, THIS is why I love the work I do. 🥹🩷
Because when I talk about hypnobirthing and birth preparation, I never want you to think I'm promising you some magical, perfect, candle-lit birth where everything goes exactly to plan.
That's not birth.
Birth is unpredictable, messy, powerful, emotional, hilarious and sometimes completely bloody wild.
But what I do want is for you to feel like you've got the tools to navigate it.
And this mama is such a beautiful example of that.
She knew what she wanted...
Before labour even started, she'd been worrying about going overdue.
She was worried about induction.
She had all those little thoughts creeping in…
What if I go over? What if they tell me I need an induction? What if things don't happen naturally?
Sound familiar?
Because I think so many pregnant women spend their pregnancy trying to mentally prepare themselves for every possible thing that could go wrong.
And honestly, babe…
You don't need more fear.
You need more knowledge.
More confidence.
More support.
More understanding of your options.
And a bit more trust in yourself.
This mama had also decided she really wanted to use the midwife-led unit.
Then labour came along and after a check, she was 4cm dilated.
She was encouraged to stay on delivery suite.
But she knew where she wanted to be.
So she spoke up.
She advocated for herself.
And she got onto the midwife-led unit.
YES GIRL. 👏🏼
And the atmosphere?
Absolutely gorgeous.
Dark room.
Fairy lights.
Relaxing music.
Calm surroundings.
The kind of environment where you can actually switch off from the outside world and get into your own little birth bubble.
After a couple of hours using gas and air, she got into the pool.
And then…
She birthed her baby. 🤍
Everything went beautifully.
Although there was one tiny issue…
She decided during the birth that she wanted some more pain relief.
Fair enough!
Except when they checked…
His head was coming out. 🤣
So that was a bit of a “well… never mind then!” moment.
I bloody LOVE that part of the story.
Because birth doesn't always follow the script.
And that's okay.
And yes… there were stitches.
She had a second-degree tear and another small tear, so recovery has been a little sore while she's healed.
But baby boy has been absolutely amazing.
And the best bit?
They were discharged and home by around 8am the next morning. 🥹
But here's what makes me particularly proud…
This mama prepared for her birth with ME.
She came through Calm AF Birth Club.
And this is exactly why I created it.
Not to promise you a particular birth.
Not to tell you that if you just breathe enough, everything will magically go perfectly.
And definitely not to scare the shit out of you with every possible birth complication.
I created Calm AF because I want women to feel prepared.
I want you to understand your brain and your nervous system.
I want you to understand what's happening in your body.
I want you to understand your options.
I want you to know how to ask questions.
I want you to feel confident advocating for yourself.
And I want you to have actual tools you can use when labour gets intense.
Because when you're in labour, you don't want to be thinking:
“SHIT. I wish I'd prepared for this.”
You want to have practised.
You want to recognise what's happening.
You want to have your breathing tools.
You want to know how to relax your body.
You want your partner to know how to support you.
And you want that little voice in your head saying:
“I've got this.”
And this is the bit I REALLY want you to remember…
She was worried about going overdue.
She was worried about induction.
She didn't know exactly how her birth would unfold.
But she went into labour naturally.
She advocated for herself.
She used her tools.
She created a calm environment.
She got into the pool.
She birthed her baby.
And she came away saying:
“Please go with your gut and advocate for yourself.”
THAT is what I want for you.
Not necessarily a water birth.
Not necessarily a natural birth.
Not necessarily a pain-free birth.
Not even necessarily the birth you've imagined.
I want you to feel like an active participant in your own birth.
Because your birth story belongs to YOU.
And whatever happens, you deserve to feel informed, supported, heard and confident in your decisions.
That's why I do this work.
That's why I bang on about nervous systems.
That's why I talk about birth rights.
That's why I teach hypnobirthing.
That's why I created Calm AF.
Because I want you to go into birth thinking:
“I don't know exactly what is going to happen…
but I know I'm fucking ready for it.” 🩷
